Community Support at Mount Ida
Mount Ida Preservation Association coordinates community-based support services that meet immediate needs while helping neighbors connect to longer-term resources across Troy and the Capital Region.
We provide direct support on-site and community navigation beyond our walls, guided by shared standards of dignity, safety, and fairness.
Our Role
Mount Ida serves as a host, coordinator, and steward of community support services. Some services are delivered directly at Mount Ida, while others help connect neighbors to trusted organizations throughout the community.
Our goal is not to do everything, but to make support and mutual aid accessible, humane, and understandable.
Get Involved
Community Support services at Mount Ida are powered by volunteers and community partners.

Two Ways We Support the Community
Mount Ida Food Pantry
Emergency food access, delivered with dignity
The Mount Ida Food Pantry provides free emergency food to neighbors in our service area. Distribution is run entirely by trained volunteers and operates within clear guidelines to ensure fairness, safety, and respect for all guests.
Community Compass
Finding support beyond Mount Ida
Community Compass helps neighbors locate food, housing, health, legal, family, and other support services across Troy and the Capital Region. Maintained by Mount Ida, it’s designed to help people navigate options when one service alone isn’t enough.
Community Connection & Civic Life
Community support includes not only meeting immediate needs, but also creating spaces for connection, dialogue, and civic belonging.
Monthly Community Brunch
On the third Sunday of each month, Mount Ida hosts a pay-what-you-can Community Brunch. These gatherings are open to all neighbors and are meant to be welcoming, informal spaces to share a meal, meet one another, and build relationships across differences.
Civic & Candidate Brunches
At times, Mount Ida also hosts candidate and civic brunches to encourage informed, respectful engagement with local issues and public life. These events are designed to foster understanding, not division.
Our aim is simple: to help neighbors feel fed, connected, and meaningfully engaged in the civic life of their community.
Interested in Hosting a Neighborhood Civic Meeting?
Mount Ida is seeking a neighborhood civic meeting leader to help convene occasional gatherings focused on local concerns, shared priorities, and constructive dialogue. You do not need to be a policy expert or public official—just someone interested in helping neighbors come together in a thoughtful, inclusive way.
